Technology Applications

What did I learn

  • Digital imaging photography

  • Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator

  • Google SketchUp

  • Creating trifolds

  • Doing script development for videos

  • Create and edit videos

  • Work on iGuide, Poly.cam, and on Mail Chimp

These skills not only showed us all the technology used in museums, but by doing it ourselves, we could apply our skills to whatever museum we worked at. It was interesting getting to work on Google SketchUp, as we could bring our exhibits to life virtually, and see how other museums used it.

Assignments

  • Image capturing of artefacts

  • Retouching and prepared scanned images

  • Critique design samples

  • Prepare a sample panel, and prepare our mini-exhibit posters

  • Creating our mini exhibits on Google Sketchup

  • Design a trifold for our class exhibit

  • Do a promotional video for an interactive, which would be showcased in the class exhibit

For our image capture, we got to bring in our objects and take photos of them according to museum standards. We made sure to use the right aperture and focus so both the object and colour guide could be seen. When we got to do Google Sketchup, we got to recreate our mini-exhibit on the programme with the tools necessary to ensure correct proportions.
