Over the course of a year, I took 7 courses per semester at Fleming College to fulfil the requirements for their Museum Management and Curatorship programme. Take a look at the list below to see what courses I did.
In this course, I got to learn the skills and tools needed to develop exhibits. These would help me create my own mini-exhibit and a class exhibit.
I got to learn about how to best look after museum collections, and how to manage them. This ranges from working with multiple databases to creating records to catalogue items in the collection.
We learned about the education department in museums, and how we could apply that in our projects. This does include creating our own education programme.
In this course, we worked on different applications to create not only panels, but sketches and other designs. We also learned how to create videos, and best photographing practices so we can take high quality photos of artefacts.
We got to learn about the best conservation practices in the field, and how to best look after the artefacts.
In this course, I learned everything there is to know about the administration in both galleries and museums. We also did exercises to help learn skills, like budgeting, related to this field.
